Polish Phrases and Traditions!

Seems as I've just returned from the old capital of Poland, I thought I'd share with you guys the (very few - but useful) phrases and interesting facts I learnt while I was there :)

Everywhere I looked for a translation, I found it very hard to get pronunciation correct so I'll try and help out and type how you say it phonetically!!

  • On Easter Sunday/Monday it's tradition to have water sprayed at you by others.
  • Children start school and leave school earlier than us in England (8am-2pm).
  • 'Bigos' is one of the most traditional meals served here. It's a big cabbage and meat stew, sometimes served in stale bread.
  • A popular street food in the city is a bagel-like pretzel, sometimes covered in poppy seeds called 'Obwarzanek'.
  • Hot chocolate isn't as runny as English! It's similar to thick cacao!
